Santa Fe Fuego Hold Off Alpine Cowboys 10-8

July 14 2022 The Santa Fe Fuego defeated the Alpine Cowboys 10-8 at Kokernot Field, collecting 12 hits to Alpine’s 11. Santa Fe broke a 2-2 tie with seven runs in the third inning and added an insurance run in the seventh to secure the victory.

Jared Gay led Santa Fe’s offense by going 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two runs and four RBI. Manny Cachora went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Jesus Chavez added two hits. Santa Fe also received a hit and an RBI from Phil Buckingham and a hit and an RBI from Drake Ayala.

Alpine answered with three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Mark Traylor went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Dylan Nolan added two hits and two RBI. Alex Canty contributed two RBI, and Andrew Capone and Josh Laurie each collected two hits.

Buckingham earned the win after allowing seven hits and five earned runs in four innings. Matt Fountain recorded the save with three innings of relief, allowing four hits and three earned runs. Ryan Greco took the loss for Alpine after surrendering eight runs on nine hits in two innings.
