Alpine Cowboys Defeat Austin Weirdos 7-4

July 4 2024 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Austin Weirdos 7-4 at Kokernot Field. Alpine scored three runs in the first inning, added two in the second and maintained the lead throughout the seven-inning game. The Cowboys finished with eight hits, while Austin collected 11.

Trevor Tripoli went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and Taylor Darden went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Alpine. Josh Rego added a home run and two RBI, while James Prockish drove in two runs. Austin’s Marcos Cabrera, Steve Snowden, Donnell Scott and Ryan Drag each had two hits. Snowden scored once and drove in a run, while Drag also scored and had an RBI.

Austin scored twice in the second inning to cut Alpine’s lead to 5-2 and added two more runs in the fourth, but the Cowboys answered with a run in the fourth and another in the sixth. Alpine’s runs in the sixth extended the advantage to 7-4 before Jack McNellis closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.

Brayde Hirai earned the win after allowing four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in four innings. Liam Reynolds and Jonathan Fleckenstein each worked a scoreless inning, and McNellis recorded the save with one strikeout in the seventh. Ryan Drag took the loss for Austin, allowing six runs, four earned, on three hits in three innings while walking three and striking out two.
