July 9 2024 The Alpine Cowboys held off the Tucson Saguaros 5-4 at Kokernot Field. Alpine scored once in each of the first five innings, while Tucson answered in the first, second, fourth and fifth before the Cowboys preserved the one-run victory.
Alpine finished with nine hits. Josh Rego went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI, while Khalil Wilson also collected two hits and scored twice. AJ Folds and Trevor Tripoli each drove in a run, and James Prockish and Humberto Vela also had RBIs for the Cowboys. Tucson had six hits, with Colin Johnson contributing a double and an RBI and Andrew Baker adding a hit and an RBI. Brodey Neveker scored three of Tucson’s four runs.
Liam Reynolds earned the win for Alpine after allowing one hit and no runs over 2.1 innings, with one walk and one strikeout. Humberto Vela started for the Cowboys and worked 4.2 innings, allowing five hits and four runs, three earned, while walking four and striking out two.
Tucson starter Trey Trimble gave up seven hits and four earned runs in four innings. Myles White took the loss after allowing two hits and one run over 1.1 innings, and Jesse Palafox retired both batters he faced. Alpine committed two errors and Tucson committed one.
