Alpine Cowboys Cruise Past Salina Stockade 12-2

May 23 2016 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Salina Stockade 12-2 at Kokernot Field behind a 16-hit attack and a complete-game effort from Kevin Klaess. Salina finished with four hits and committed four errors, while Alpine played errorless baseball.

Alpine broke through with three runs in the third inning, added two in the fifth and one in the sixth before putting the game out of reach with four runs in the seventh and two in the eighth. Salina scored both of its runs in the seventh inning. The Cowboys also benefited from home runs by Eric Ferguson and Salina’s Ray Hernandez.

Ferguson went 2-for-4 with a home run two runs and three RBI. Yuta Okazaki collected three hits including a double and drove in two runs, while Ariel Adut went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Clayton Truex added two hits including a double and three RBI, and Tim Henry contributed two hits with a triple and two runs scored.

Klaess earned the victory by allowing four hits and two runs, two earned, while striking out five and walking four over nine innings. Alan Madsen took the loss for Salina after surrendering 10 hits and seven runs six earned in six innings. D. Speranza allowed four runs in one inning before Derek Meyer finished with a scoreless ninth.
