June 10 2011 The White Sands Pupfish held off the Alpine Cowboys 9-8 at Griggs Park. White Sands finished with 10 hits and scored five runs in the fourth inning to take control after the teams traded one-run innings in the third. The Pupfish added one run in the sixth and two in the seventh before holding on in the final two innings.
Chris De Biasi led White Sands with three hits and two RBI, while Rod Allen went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, including a home run. Ruben Sanchez also homered and drove in a run. Lammar Guy added two hits and two RBI. Alpine received three hits and an RBI from Anderson Gardner, while Cody Collins collected two hits and two RBI. Kyle Wells scored twice and had two hits.
Jack Winters earned the win for White Sands after allowing two hits and no runs in 1.2 innings with one strikeout. Adam Osteen recorded the save with a scoreless ninth, allowing no hits and striking out one. Alpine starter Greg Denton gave up six earned runs in 3.1 innings, and Brian Hobbs was charged with the loss after allowing two runs in one inning.
