The Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League have agreed to have Max Bat as their Bat Sponsor for the 2013 season. Max Bat is also the Bat Provider of the Roswell Invaders and Taos Blizzard in the Pecos League. Max Bat is riding a huge wave of popularity as three of the San Francisco Giants used Max Bats in the World Series.

Max Bats have been popular with both the Big Bend Cowboys and the Alpine Cowboys since Pro Ball has been re-established in 2009

Max Bats is one of many companies that have contacted the Pecos League about being an exclusive bat. The Pecos League will have either eight or nine teams and has eliminated the use of composite bats for the 2013 season. Each team in the Pecos League will have an exclusive bat contract. The Alpine Cowboys proudly held their Fall 2012 Team Meeting on Tuesday Night in Alpine. The Pecos League Championship Trophy was proudly on display. The Cowboys are starting early fundraising for the 2013 season. The Cowboys will finally be able to sell ads on their historic outfield fence. Alicia and I were drained of emotion and energy from the excitement of our home town Alpine Cowboys come from behind 13-7 victory, cinching the Pecos League Championship in a best 2 out of 3 series against always tough, long-time rivals from the days of the Continental League, the Las Cruces Vaqueros.
It followed a great year of minor league baseball at Kokernot Field; ending with plenty of tension in the run-up to the play-offs and home field advantage – and we’re just fans and supporters. Imagine what it was like for the players and management.

Starting with the July 19th series against the Trinidad Triggers (giving the Cowboys fits the entire season), our road trip to El Paso for a July 26th double header against Las Cruces, through the final home stand beginning July 28th against the Roswell Invaders that included several back-to-back double headers.

August 7 2012 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Las Cruces Vaqueros 13-7 at Kokernot Field, overcoming an early deficit with a seven-run fifth inning. Las Cruces scored four times in the first and added another run in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead, but Alpine answered with seven runs in the fifth and never relinquished control. The Cowboys added two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth. Alpine collected 12 hits, led by Ben Ives with three hits, two runs and one RBI. Justin McDavid went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while J. Carranza hit a home run and drove in three runs. N. Ochoa also homered and finished with two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Bo Bell added two hits and two RBIs. Las Cruces was paced by Randy Wells, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Kevin Wager and Ryan Lauer, who each had two hits. Bryce Weidman earned the win for Alpine after allowing two runs on two hits in one inning. Brett Kennedy started for the Cowboys and surrendered five runs on seven hits in four innings, with only one run recorded as earned. Alpines bullpen held Las Cruces scoreless over the final four innings, with Andrew Plotkin, Kevin Johnson, Bryant Asnicar and Alfredo Caballero combining for four scoreless innings and nine strikeouts. Shawn Kale took the loss for Las Cruces after allowing eight runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings. The Vaqueros finished with nine hits and scored twice in the sixth, but Alpines 13-run attack and early second-half surge secured the victory.

August 6 2012 The Las Cruces Vaqueros defeated the Alpine Cowboys 12-5 at Kokernot Field, collecting 13 hits in the victory. Las Cruces broke through with five runs in the second inning, added two in the third and extended its lead with single runs in the fifth and sixth before scoring three more in the ninth. Alpine scored once in the sixth and four times in the eighth but could not complete the comeback.

Trevor Whyte led the Vaqueros offensively, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, four runs and three RBI. Steve Rinaudo added a two-run performance with a home run and three RBI, while Randy Wells and Jesse Olivar each drove in a run and Jimmy Parque had two RBI. Las Cruces finished with three home runs and six extra-base hits.

Chris Peacock earned the win for Las Cruces after allowing seven hits and four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings. He walked five and struck out five while throwing 126 pitches, including 80 strikes. Alfonso Cardenas completed the game with a scoreless ninth inning and struck out all three batters he faced.

Alpine collected eight hits, with Bo Bell going 2-for-4 and scoring twice. N. Ochoa went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI, while Chris Davis hit a home run and drove in two runs. Chris Welborn took the loss after surrendering nine hits and seven runs in 2 1/3 innings.

The Alpine Cowboys beat the Las Cru

The Alpine Cowboys beat the Las Cruces Vaqueros with three swings of the bat. The big blow was Joel Carranzas three run homer off Derek Johnson in the 7th to tie the game 4-4. The Cowboys then got their power from the least likely source. Eric Herman hit the next pitch out of the park to give the Cowboys the lead in what would hold up for good. Alpines other run came from a solo Home Run by Nacho Ochoa in the 2nd. The Vaqueros turned four double plays and played well defensively but you cannot defend the long ball. Alfredo Caballaro came out to get the save in the 9th. Andrew Plotkin and Kevin Johnson each had solid relief appearences for Alpine.

August 3 2012 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Trinidad Triggers 5-2 at Kokernot Field, using a 10-hit attack and a strong pitching performance to secure the win. Alpine scored once in the first inning, twice in the fifth, once in the sixth and once in the eighth. Trinidad answered with one run in the fourth and one in the fifth but could not close the gap.

N. Ochoa led Alpine with three hits and two runs, while Ben Ives added two hits and a run. J. Carranza went 2-for-2 with a home run, one RBI and one run scored, and Derrick Fox and Tyler Hicks also drove in runs. Alpine stole four bases and turned three double plays.

Bryce Wiedman earned the win after allowing five hits and two runs, including two earned, in eight innings. He walked six and struck out nine. Alfredo Caballero worked a scoreless ninth with one strikeout for the save. Trinidad starter Eric Binder took the loss despite striking out nine in 7 1/3 innings; he allowed 10 hits and five runs, four earned. Jacob Fabry homered for Trinidad and finished with one RBI, while Colt Loehrs also drove in a run.

What were you looking for from the team this season?” A: “To be composed of a blue collar, hard-working all-around ball players with athleticism, a work ethic, character, skills in the fundamentals of batting, fielding, throwing, running. You can’t build a team of all All-Stars and self-centered individuals; but of well-rounded, hard working, dedicated young men who love the game of baseball and will represent the community of Alpine with pride.”

Q: “Are you talking about this year’s Cowboys team?” A: “I am. I’m talking about this group of young men who click well together and love playing the game of baseball and being an Alpine ‘06’ Cowboy and making a difference in this world through the game of baseball.”

The Lights went off at Kokernot F

The Lights went off at Kokernot Field with Alpine leading Roswell 13-2 in the 7th inning. The game was called a final game by field umpire Jared Palladino after the lights would not come back on. The Trinidad Triggers will be in Alpine Thursday Night for round 1 of the playoffs. The Roswell Invaders will play in Las Cruces for their first round of the playoffs.

Brett Kennedy from Alpine was named

Brett Kennedy from Alpine was named pitcher of the year for the 2012 season in the Pecos League. Brett went 6-2 with a 2.47 ERA. He had 73 innings pitched with 69 strikeouts and only 18 walks. He maintained a WHIP of 0.98 despite pitching in the most hitter friendly league in the nation. He lead Alpine"s pitching staff which was the best in the Pecos League. He is from Valdosta State in Georgia and will be moving to a higher league at the conclusion of the Pecos League season.

Ryan Stevens is named manager of th

Ryan Stevens is named manager of the the year. He guided the Alpine Cowboys to the top seed in the Pecos League with a record of 44-24. He assembled the leagues best pitching staff and had almost no transactions. He was instrumental in Andrew Wall signing with the Washington Nationals, David Valesente signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Jonathan Edwards signing with the Texas Rangers

He has over one hundred wins in his young managing career. His Alpine 06 Cowboys endured extreme road trips as far as Colorado. The Cowboys will host the playoffs on Thursday beginning with Trindad.

Ryan has been the only manager for the Alpine Cowboys since they have joined the Pecos League. He worked for the Big Bend Cowboys as an assistant in 2010. He was named Interim Manager halfway through the year and he held on to beat Las Cruces for the CBL Championship. In 2008-2009 Ryan was an assistant coach under Chris McKnight with the Texarkana Gunslingers of the Continental Baseball League.

At the conclusion of the 2012 season several of the Alpine 06 Cowboys will be called up to higher level leagues.

The First Game of Doubleheader betw

The First Game of Doubleheader between Alpine and Roswell ended in a 6-6 tie that was ruled in a forfeit win for Alpine. Mark Gomez pitched the 7th inning of the game for Roswell. He was not on the lineup card. Alpine manager Ryan Stevens protested that Mark Gomez was not on the lineup card despite pitching the entire 7th inning for Roswell. "Manager Simon Walters either didnt know the rules or tried to be slick. Simon thinks he is smarter than everyone and rules dont apply" says Plate umpire Jared Palladino who ruled the game was a forfeit. This is the first forfeit in the history of the Pecos League. The two teams played the 2nd game of a doubleheader.

July 28 2012 The Alpine Cowboys rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Roswell Invaders 6-5 at Kokernot Field. Alpine finished with seven hits and three errors, while Roswell collected nine hits and committed four errors.

Alpine scored twice in the first inning and added another run in the sixth before Roswell moved ahead with a two-run seventh and a run in the eighth. Roswell led 5-3 entering the bottom of the ninth, but the Cowboys scored three times to secure the victory. Roswell also scored once in the fifth and once in the ninth.

Ben Ives led Alpine with three hits, including a double and a home run, two runs and two RBI. Derrick Fox hit a home run and drove in a run, while Justin McDavid added two hits. Mike Marion had a hit and an RBI. For Roswell, Adam Kam went 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Wes Kartch and Josh Cakebread each had two hits. Kartch added a double and an RBI.

Alpine starter Brett Kennedy worked seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs, none earned, while striking out three. Kevin Johnson earned the win with one inning of relief, allowing one hit and one run while striking out one. Roswell starter B. Castello pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits and three runs, two earned, with six strikeouts. The losing pitcher was listed as Erik Burkewitz.

July 12 2012 The Alpine Cowboys held off the Santa Fe Fuego 12-11 in a high-scoring Pecos League game. Alpine finished with 18 hits and Santa Fe collected 13. The Cowboys built an 11-4 lead through four innings before the Fuego rallied with two runs in the fifth and seven more in the eighth.

Alpine struck for four runs in the third and five in the fourth to take control early. Santa Fe�s seventh-inning rally cut the deficit to one run but Alpine added the eventual winning run in the seventh. The Fuego�s seven-run eighth made it a one-run game again but Alpine held on in the ninth.

E. Herman led Alpine with four hits and three runs while B. Ives went 3-for-5 with three RBI. B. Bell added two hits two runs and two RBI. The Santa Fe Fuego set the All Time Pecos League Runs Record with a 27-10 win over Alpine at Fort Marcy Park. Josh Valle, Evan Kohli, Scot Palmer and Kieran Bradford all hit home runs. Barry Abraham Zavah Smoking may have been banned on the campus of Sul Ross University but not inside Kokernot Field given the results of the June 8-10 series when the Alpine Cowboys of the independent Pecos League of Baseball returned home and took 3 of 4 games from the visiting Trinidad Triggers of Colorado.. The tempo picked right-up where the Boys left-off before hitting a three week long trail May 20th, excelling in all aspects of the game. Everyone contributed to a successful outcome, including the fans in the stands. Game 1 was an 11-1 pasting of Trinidad supported by stellar defense (whats new) and an offensive display running into double digits including 5 doubles. Cowboys starting ace RHP Chris Welborn lowered his ERA to a miserly 1.35 going the distance with 10 strikeouts and mowing em down in order in the 7th. Alpine built a 7-5 lead through eight innings before adding four runs in the ninth. Trinidad finished with nine hits and committed eight errors, while Alpine had one error.

Derrick Fox and Tyler Hicks each went 2-for-4 with a home run two runs and two RBIs for Alpine. Bo Bell added a hit two walks two RBIs and a run, while Kevin Hennessey and Ben Ives each recorded two hits. Alpine also received doubles from Bell Justin McDavid Hennessey Eric Garcia Ives and Mike Marion.

Trinidad was led by Jacob Fabry who went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs. Andrew Riddick went 2-for-3 with a double a run and two RBIs, while Harry Williams Jr. drove in two runs.

Chris Welborn earned the win for Alpine after allowing nine hits and five earned runs in 6.1 innings with one walk and six strikeouts. May 20 2012 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 10-1 at Kokernot Field, overcoming an early Santa Fe run with 10 unanswered runs. The Fuego scored in the first inning, but Alpine answered in the second and added three runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and four in the eighth. Alpine outhit Santa Fe 10-8 and committed no errors while the Fuego made one error.

Justin McDavid went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI for Alpine. Kevin Hennessey also went 3-for-4, scored three runs, drove in two and hit a home run. Eric Garcia hit a home run and finished with three RBI, while Bo Bell and Ben Ives each added a hit and scored a run. Alpine recorded six extra-base hits, including three doubles by McDavid, two doubles by Bell and home runs from Hennessey and Garcia.

Bryce Weidman earned the win after allowing one run on seven hits in seven innings, with one walk and three strikeouts. Pedro Maldonado, Mike Castrignano, Derrick Dingeman and Alfredo Caballero combined to complete the game with two scoreless innings. Jack Winters took the loss for Santa Fe after giving up six runs, five earned, on seven hits in 5.1 innings, while Karlyle Whitley allowed four runs in 2.2 innings.

The wind picked-up just before the first pitch of the Alpine Cowboys Pecos League home opener against the Santa Fe Fuego visitors. It matched the excitement and opening day jitters of the Boys and fans alike. What to expect? Most were brand new to the Alpine dugout; with only 4 of last years team back for another rodeo.

Returning to town after a rain-shortened road trip to Roswell brought the team back with a 0-2 record; where both losses were 9th inning heart-breakers of well-pitched games by both clubs. A short pre-season and perhaps insufficient game time experience left expectations running on “we just don’t know”; but for an interview with the Coach.

Well, the fire’s been ignited in fine style; giving the faithful an exhibition of pro ball played very well in all facets of the game. There was a cool confidence; expressed by deeds on the field, not just talk in the locker room.

May 18 2012 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 5-1 at Kokernot Field. Alpine scored once in the second inning and broke the game open with a four-run third inning, while Santa Fe�s only run came in the sixth. The Cowboys finished with eight hits and one error; the Fuego had seven hits and three errors.

Bo Bell led Alpine�s offense with a home run and two RBI. Ben Ives also drove in two runs, while Eric Garcia had a double and an RBI. Derrick Fox went 2-for-4 and stole two bases, and J. Carranza added two hits. Santa Fe�s Joshua Valle went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Evan Kohli and Matt Streich each collected two hits.

Chris Welborn earned the win for Alpine after allowing one run on six hits over 7.1 innings. He struck out five and walked two. Andrew Wall, Bryant Asnicar and R. Cooper combined to finish the game, allowing one hit and striking out three over the final 1.2 innings.

Isaac Hernandez took the loss for Santa Fe, surrendering five earned runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings with four strikeouts. Scott Berkebile recorded the final two outs without allowing a hit.

May 12 2012 The Roswell Invaders defeated the Alpine Cowboys 3-2, scoring once in the first inning, again in the fourth and once more in the ninth. Alpine answered with runs in the third and sixth innings but was held to three hits in the loss, while Roswell finished with nine hits.

Casanova Donaldson led Roswell�s offense by going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Josh Cakebread also collected two hits, and Brian Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Donaldson and Brian Fitzpatrick each drove in a run for the Invaders.

Anthony Machado earned the win for Roswell after allowing two hits and one unearned run over five innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Nathan Johnson opened with four innings of one-hit ball, allowing one unearned run and striking out five. Alpine starter Brett Kennedy took the loss despite giving up only one earned run in 4 1/3 innings, allowing five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

May 11 2012 The Roswell Invaders scored twice in the ninth inning to defeat the Alpine Cowboys 4-3. Roswell finished with 12 hits while Alpine collected four. The Invaders also overcame three errors to secure the victory.

Roswell took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Alpine answered with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to move ahead 3-2. Roswell"s ninth-inning rally produced the decisive two runs. Brian Ramirez led the Invaders with four hits in five at-bats, while Wes Kartch added three hits. Casanova Donaldson had two hits and scored once, and Patrick Peyno delivered a two-run double. Gabe Torres also drove in a run.

Brandon Godfrey earned the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning without allowing a hit and striking out no batters while issuing one walk. Reed Brown worked 5.1 innings for Roswell, allowing four hits and three runs, two earned, with five strikeouts. For Alpine, Chris Welborn allowed eight hits and two runs over six innings, with three strikeouts and two walks, while Andrew Plotkin took the loss after surrendering two runs in 1.2 innings.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed David Valesente to a minor league contract. David was a 2011 Pecos League All Star and the every day third baseman. "The Cowboys Organization is very proud of David and his accomplishments. He has proven to be a first class athlete as well as a first class person. We wish him nothing but the best."
