The Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League have agreed to have Max Bat as their Bat Sponsor for the 2013 season. Max Bat is also the Bat Provider of the Roswell Invaders and Taos Blizzard in the Pecos League. Max Bat is riding a huge wave of popularity as three of the San Francisco Giants used Max Bats in the World Series.
Max Bats have been popular with both the Big Bend Cowboys and the Alpine Cowboys since Pro Ball has been re-established in 2009
Max Bats is one of many companies that have contacted the Pecos League about being an exclusive bat. The Pecos League will have either eight or nine teams and has eliminated the use of composite bats for the 2013 season. Each team in the Pecos League will have an exclusive bat contract.

The Alpine Cowboys proudly held their Fall 2012 Team Meeting on Tuesday Night in Alpine.

Ryan Stevens will begin to announce returners for the 2012 season. Alpine was happier with the league umpires than in 2012. Alpine opens the 2013 season hosting the Roswell Invaders.

Alicia and I were drained of emotion and energy from the excitement of our home town Alpine Cowboys come from behind 13-7 victory, cinching the Pecos League Championship in a best 2 out of 3 series against always tough, long-time rivals from the days of the Continental League, the Las Cruces Vaqueros. It followed a great year of minor league baseball at Kokernot Field; ending with plenty of tension in the run-up to the play-offs and home field advantage – and we’re just fans and supporters. Imagine what it was like for the players and management.
Starting with the July 19th series against the Trinidad Triggers (giving the Cowboys fits the entire season), our road trip to El Paso for a July 26th double header against Las Cruces, through the final home stand beginning July 28th against the Roswell Invaders that included several back-to-back double headers. Whew! Each game was important.
There was a time during that stretch when the Boys were all of 4/1000th of a point ahead of then, second place Roswel
Steve Rinaudo hit a three inside the park home run that ricocheted off of the Brick Wall in Alpine. Trevor Whyte hit a three run homer in the 9th to break the game open. Whyte also scored four runs. Nacho Ochoa went 2-3 for Alpine with 2 doubles. Chris Welborn did not get out the 2nd inning allowing 8 runs on 7 hits. The Las Cruces Vaqueros beat the Alpine Cowboys 12-5 to send the series to game three.
The Vaqueros got a solid start from Chris Peacock which pitch 7 2/3 innings allowing only 4 runs.
Alfonso Cardenas struck out the side in the 9th to end the game for the Vaqueros.
The Alpine Cowboys beat the Las Cru
The Alpine Cowboys beat the Las Cruces Vaqueros with three swings of the bat.
The big blow was Joel Carranza"s three run homer off Derek Johnson in the 7th to tie the game 4-4.
The Cowboys then got their power from the least likely source. Eric Herman hit the next pitch out of the park to give the Cowboys the lead in what would hold up for good. Alpine"s other run came from a solo Home Run by Nacho Ochoa in the 2nd.
The Vaqueros turned four double plays and played well defensively but you cannot defend the long ball.
Alfredo Caballaro came out to get the save in the 9th. Andrew Plotkin and Kevin Johnson each had solid relief appearences for Alpine.

You can’t build a team of all All-Stars and self-centered individuals; but of well-rounded, hard working, dedicated young men who love the game of baseball and will represent the community of Alpine with pride.”
Q: “Are you talking about this year’s Cowboys team?”
A: “I am. I’m talking about this group of young men who click well together and love playing the game of baseball and being an Alpine ‘06’ Cowboy and making a difference in this world through the game of baseball.”
Q: “When did you first begin to assemble the 2012 team?”
A: “The day after we lost to Roswell last year in the semi-finals, by a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning. I wanted to build a culture of baseball and way of life for the Alpine C
Brett Kennedy from Alpine was named
Brett Kennedy from Alpine was named pitcher of the year for the 2012 season in the Pecos League.
Brett went 6-2 with a 2.47 ERA. He had 73 innings pitched with 69 strikeouts and only 18 walks.
He maintained a WHIP of 0.98 despite pitching in the most hitter friendly league in the nation.
He lead Alpine"s pitching staff which was the best in the Pecos League. He is from Valdosta State in Georgia and will be moving to a higher league at the conclusion of the Pecos League season.
The Lights went off at Kokernot F
The Lights went off at Kokernot Field with Alpine leading Roswell 13-2 in the 7th inning.
The game was called a final game by field umpire Jared Palladino after the lights would not come back on.
The Trinidad Triggers will be in Alpine Thursday Night for round 1 of the playoffs.
The Roswell Invaders will play in Las Cruces for their first round of the playoffs.

Ryan Stevens is named manager of the the year. He guided the Alpine Cowboys to the top seed in the Pecos League with a record of 44-24. He assembled the leagues best pitching staff and had almost no transactions. He was instrumental in Andrew Wall signing with the Washington Nationals, David Valesente signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Jonathan Edwards signing with the Texas Rangers
He has over one hundred wins in his young managing career. His Alpine 06 Cowboys endured extreme road trips as far as Colorado. The Cowboys will host the playoffs on Thursday beginning with Trindad.Ryan has been the only manager for the Alpine Cowboys since they have joined the Pecos League. He worked for the Big Bend Cowboys as an assistant in 2010. He was named Interim Manager halfway through the year and he held on to beat Las Cruces for the CBL Championship. In 2008-2009 Ryan was an assistant coach under Chris McKnight with the Texarkana Gunslingers of the Continental Baseball League.
At the conclusion of the 2012 season several of the Alpine 06 Cowboys will be called up to higher level leagues.

The First Game of Doubleheader betw
The First Game of Doubleheader between Alpine and Roswell ended in a 6-6 tie that was ruled in a forfeit win for Alpine. Mark Gomez pitched the 7th inning of the game for Roswell. He was not on the lineup card. Alpine manager Ryan Stevens protested that Mark Gomez was not on the lineup card despite pitching the entire 7th inning for Roswell. "Manager Simon Walters either didn"t know the rules or tried to be slick. Simon thinks he is smarter than everyone and rules don"t apply" says Plate umpire Jared Palladino who ruled the game was a forfeit. This is the first forfeit in the history of the Pecos League. The two teams played the 2nd game of a doubleheader.

The Santa Fe Fuego set the All Time Pecos League Runs Record with a 27-10 win over Alpine at Fort Marcy Park. Josh Valle, Evan Kohli, Scot Palmer and Kieran Bradford all hit home runs. Andrew Archbold had 5 rbis, Evan Kohli had 4 rbis. The Fuego had 30 hits in 8 innings and Alpine only made 2 errors.

A stronger wind blew through Kokernot Field tonight than in yesterday’s Game 1 of the Alpine Cowboys – Santa Fe Fuego 4 game series, fanning the flame of Cowboy resolve to continue to improve in every facet of the game; demonstrating a number of things for the young team and it’s loyal fans: “these Boys are in it to win it” and doing so in convincing fashion by beating the Fuego team 19-5 in a 4 hour+ game Saturday night in Alpine, TX.
Did you want solid relief pitching by the Cowboys? Did you want to see the opposition Bull Pen crumble? Did you want to see the Cowboys hit double digits on the scoreboard? The game had that by the before the 6th inning was over.
There wasn’t much to say in the way of positives for Santa Fe. Cowboy’s Head Coach Ryan Stevens called it “a good team effort. We used 5 pitchers who all came out and attacked the zone and did their job. Our hitters came up with timely hits and you can’t ask better than that.”

Smoking may have been banned on the campus of Sul Ross University but not inside Kokernot Field given the results of the June 8-10 series when the Alpine Cowboys of the independent Pecos League of Baseball returned home and took 3 of 4 games from the visiting Trinidad Triggers of Colorado.. The tempo picked right-up where the Boys left-off before hitting a three week long trail May 20th, excelling in all aspects of the game. Everyone contributed to a successful outcome, including the fans in the stands.
Game 1 was an 11-1 pasting of Trinidad supported by stellar defense (whats new) and an offensive display running into double digits including 5 doubles. Cowboys starting ace RHP Chris Welborn lowered his ERA to a miserly 1.35 going the distance with 10 strikeouts and mowing em down in order in the 7th.
Game 2 was marked with excellent relief work by RHP Alfredo Caballero, an offensive performance with 4 more of the weekends double-fest. Each Cowboys batter had at least one hit contributing to a dramatic 6-5 victory (more about that, below).

Smoking may have been banned on the campus of Sul Ross University but not inside Kokernot Field. The Cowboys returned home and took 3 of 4 against the visiting Trinidad Triggers! Last weekend’s series picked right-up where the Boys left-off before hitting the trail May 20th … 12 doubles were hit in those 4 games … Alpine displayed aggressive base running … Here’s more of what’s what in a series where everyone contributed to a successful outcome:

The story of the Alpine Cowboys Tuesday night 7-4 victory over the visiting White Sands Pupfish at Kokernot Field was pitching, crowned by passing the hat among the fans to honor starter RHP Scott Hartling’s 9 strike-outs and closer RHP Alfredo Caballero striking-out 3 in the 9th.
Manager Ryan Stevens off-season efforts “to acquire the best pitchers possible” have shown results. After the game, Stevens was asked how it feels to be #1 in the Pecos League. “Pretty good! Did you see how well our number 5 starter did against an excellent hitting club. They only arrived a few minutes before game time. We can expect a slugfest during the balance of the series. But they’ll be looking at our #1, 2 and 3 starters the rest of the week.”
Alpine’s 7 runs consisted of a 3 run homer by DH Mike Marion in the third and single runs in the first, fourth, sixth and eighth innings, assisted by Pupfish wildness, hitting 3 Cowboys and walking 6, between starter RHP Jonathan Sintes and three relievers.

The wind picked-up just before the first pitch of the Alpine Cowboys Pecos League home opener against the Santa Fe Fuego visitors. It matched the excitement and opening day jitters of the Boys and fans alike. What to expect? Most were brand new to the Alpine dugout; with only 4 of last years team back for another rodeo.
Returning to town after a rain-shortened road trip to Roswell brought the team back with a 0-2 record; where both losses were 9th inning heart-breakers of well-pitched games by both clubs. A short pre-season and perhaps insufficient game time experience left expectations running on “we just don’t know”; but for an interview with the Coach.
Well, the fire’s been ignited in fine style; giving the faithful an exhibition of pro ball played very well in all facets of the game. There was a cool confidence; expressed by deeds on the field, not just talk in the locker room.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed David Valesente to a minor league contract. David was a 2011 Pecos League All Star and the every day third baseman. "The Cowboys Organization is very proud of David and his accomplishments. He has proven to be a first class athlete as well as a first class person. We wish him nothing but the best."
